While UPMC Health Plan is renowned for their commitment to providing its members better health, more financial security, and the peace of mind they deserve, they are also deeply devoted to making a positive environmental impact in Pittsburgh. Recently, UPMC Health Plan has supported GTECH Strategies, Grow Pittsburgh, and other environmentally-minded organizations through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s Neighborhood Assistance Program.
With support from UPMC Health Plan through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s (DCED) Neighborhood Assistance Program in 2016, GTECH concluded ReClaim McKeesport, an Ambassador Model in McKeesport, Pa. Ambassadors transitioned nine McKeesport vacant lots into gardens, trails, and small parks for use by the community. They also built relationships with their neighbors and impacted the community’s social, environmental, and economic well-being in measurable terms. GTECH calculated that every dollar invested in the project would produce a return of $21.90. Over three years, the value of the initial investment will grow to over $3.5 million!
UPMC Health Plan’s support also bolstered the establishment of a Green Playce project in McKeesport; an outdoor classroom that serves as a play-space for youth in the 7th Ward of McKeesport. Designed with assistance from local youth and students at McKeesport High School, the site contains ecologically-mindful landscaping, a Free Little Library, and a hand-painted mural, intended to commemorate the McKeesport skyline.
UPMC Health Plan’s Mobile Van will be in Market Square on both Friday, April 21st and Saturday, April 22nd – stop by for free giveaways and ask any questions you may have about UPMC Health Plan’s products and services!
