Since its inception in 1979, PITT OHIO has been building its legacy Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) service by delivering dependable solutions in response to customer’s needs. Core values and business practices have been passed down from generation to generation to ensure a reliable, dependable service that continues to focus on quality and innovation.
At PITT OHIO, it has and always will be about the solution. And with this solution comes a promise of professionalism, collaboration, and complete customer satisfaction. PITT OHIO works with clients first to gain an understanding of their unique supply chain needs, so they can provide clients with a solution that exceeds expectations.
Throughout their organization, various initiatives were happening as part of PITT OHIO’s core values. PITT OHIO partnered with Duquesne University professors Dr. John Mawhinney and Dr. Robert Sroufe to develop a custom carbon calculator to help reduce their carbon footprint on the road and at their facilities.
Their sustainable mission began with the addition of solar energy at their East Windsor terminal in Hamilton Township, NJ. They worked with a local developer and installed 1094 solar panels to accommodate the needs of a major distribution center. The solar panels are able to fully support the electricity needs of the entire terminal through solar technology!
PITT OHIO later built their LEED Certified Pittsburgh Terminal that used 40% – 50% locally sourced and recycled building materials with an innovative design and building placement to maximize daylight. A sloped white-coated roof was created to reflect solar heat and reduce the heat index.
They also teamed up with the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering to enhance the use of direct current electricity through solar and wind for the terminal. This past September, 180 solar panels were added the terminals’ roof and the company’s first WindStax Turbine was installed.
Understanding that the nature of its business has an impact on the environment, PITT OHIO is committed to improving its environmental and social sustainability performance. One of its other goals is to promote PITT OHIO and the Pittsburgh region as leaders in environmental sustainability and efficiency through the use of direct current power integration of on-site renewable energy resources (solar and wind).
