PITT OHIO Volunteer Clean Up
A Commitment to a Greener Tomorrow
April 22, 2025
For over 25 years, PITT OHIO has championed environmental stewardship through its annual Clean Up event in Pittsburgh's historic Strip District.
This vibrant gathering of volunteers, including employees, their friends, and families, transforms the streets surrounding our corporate headquarters into a testament to our enduring commitment to sustainability and community engagement.
During National Volunteerism Month, there's no better moment to spotlight the extraordinary efforts of our team. Year after year, our dedicated employees roll up their sleeves, driven by a shared mission to foster a cleaner, greener tomorrow. Their tireless dedication not only revitalizes our local environment but also ignites a spark of inspiration in others to join the cause and make a meaningful impact.
Shawn Galloway, PITT OHIO’s Vice President of Pricing, has been volunteering at the Clean Up for nearly 20 years. "The PITT OHIO Clean Up is where our values come to life. It's not just about cleaning up; it's about caring for our planet. I genuinely enjoy coming together with our employees each year. Witnessing their enthusiasm and dedication is truly inspiring. It’s amazing to see how our collective efforts create a positive impact on the environment, and it strengthens our sense of community and shared purpose."
PITT OHIO’s Help Desk Technician Theresa Legge has volunteered at the PITT OHIO Clean Up for over 20 years. "Seeing our team come together every year fills me with pride. It's a reminder of what we can achieve when we unite for a greater good. It’s heartwarming to see how our joint efforts create significant positive changes, and it strengthens our bond as a team committed to protecting our planet. It's a tradition I look forward to each year."
The legacy of the PITT OHIO Clean Up is one of unity and positive impact, earning it a stellar reputation within the community. Each year, this event not only attracts our dedicated employees but also brings together volunteers from diverse backgrounds, such as Strip District Neighbors. This collaboration reflects the strong community bonds and shared commitment to environmental stewardship that define the Clean Up. The presence of these volunteers enriches the event, fostering a spirit of cooperation and mutual dedication to creating a cleaner, more sustainable environment.

When Sandy Hanberry, the Safety Chair for the Strip District Neighbors organization, learned about PITT OHIO’s event, she wanted to support PITT OHIO’s event in her neighborhood. “PITT OHIO’s Clean Up event shows their staff's commitment to improving the Strip District. I am always impressed with their turnout and accomplishments each year. Strip District Neighbors is honored to participate.”
Chuck Hammel, President and Owner of PITT OHIO, has expressed his pride in the evolution of the Clean Up event. "I am so proud of how far this event has come over the past 25 years. Our employees' commitment grows stronger each year, showing how much they care about our mission to protect the environment. This event offers a wonderful opportunity for our employees to come together for a great cause and to have fun with their co-workers outside of the office. It's also great that employees are encouraged to bring their friends and families, which helps build a stronger, more connected culture within our company."
The PITT OHIO Clean Up is more than just picking up trash; it reflects our company's values and our shared duty to protect the environment. As this cherished tradition continues, it serves as a powerful reminder of the strength of community and the transformative impact we can achieve when we unite in purpose.
Join us this April as we celebrate National Volunteerism Month and embark on another chapter in our journey toward a sustainable future. Together, we have the power to create a cleaner, healthier environment for generations to come.
