Beloved GMC Nameplates Lead the EV ‘Quiet Revolution’
April 22, 2025
Is lots of noise necessary to make a big impression?
Two of GMC’s most popular all-electric trucks dispel that notion. The Sierra EV and Hummer EV pickups deliver an ultra-quiet drive along with uber-powerful performance. The Sierra EV offers a GM-estimated 460 miles of range and can haul up to 10,000 pounds. The Hummer EV gets up to 381 miles of range and 7,500 pounds of towing capacity.
Both models include Regen On Demand, which allows drivers to engage regenerative braking, recapture energy and extend the truck’s range. The CrabWalk technology function also turns the rear wheels in the same direction as the front wheels, allowing you to drive diagonally at low speeds while navigating tight trails.
Elegant Interior. Next-Gen Technology.
All that capability is complemented by luxurious features that rival any premium brand on the market. The Sierra boasts an interior with open pore wood, exquisite embroidery, premium quilting patterns on the seats, and a 16.8 inch center touchscreen. The Hummer’s Lunar Horizon interior layout draws inspiration from space travel and provides an immersive listening experience through a Bose 14-speaker audio system.
General Motors has even more innovation on the horizon. Two more electric truck trims will join the Sierra lineup: the 2026 Sierra EV Elevation and Sierra EV AT4. These models are now available for preorder at #1 Cochran Buick GMC in Robinson and Monroeville, as well as in the company’s Youngstown, Ohio location.

EV Pickups A Breath of Fresh Air for Environment
You may have seen the Sierra or Hummer EVs on the road while traveling—or even own one. It’s part of a growing trend that’s paying dividends for communities across the Pittsburgh region. While the quiet drive is reducing noise pollution, the electric powertrain is helping combat air pollution.
Based on analysis from the Breath Project and Clean Air Task Force, transportation accounts for 28% of Allegheny County’s emissions.1 Electric Vehicles have played an important role in this drop because they produce zero tailpipe emissions, reducing the amount of pollutants being released into the air that can cause respiratory illnesses, aggravate asthma, and raise the risk of heart attacks and lung disease.
According to EPA data, fine particle pollution (called PM2.5 particulate matter) in Pittsburgh has decreased 12.1% from 2021-2023, compared to 2014-2016.2 Considerable work is still to be done, but momentum is building.
Public officials and policymakers have also identified the need to transition its public transportation to battery-powered platforms. Pittsburgh Regional Transit is targeting a zero-emissions bus fleet by 2045 and aims to purchase EVs or hydrogen-powered vehicles exclusively beginning in 2032.3
General Motors and GMC are poised to be a key player in the nationwide shift to electrification. Its modular battery platform is designed to accommodate a wide range of EV trucks, SUVs, crossovers, cars, and commercial vehicles.
