Many companies nowadays are working to be more sustainable to help protect our planet and our future generations. However, not every company can achieve the type of distinguished recognition that UPMC Health Plan has for their environmental accomplishments.

In 2014, UPMC earned recognition from the Sustainable Business Compact, an initiative of Sustainable Pittsburgh. The Compact allows businesses around the area to report on their sustainable achievements and be recognized for these achievements based on three levels: Challenger, Leader, and Champion. UPMC Health Plan’s determined leadership combined with their efforts to work with UPMC facilities and divisions to publicly disclose 100% of completed sustainable actions with concrete evidence allowed UPMC to earn the highest distinction of Champion. They scored 300 out of a possible 330 Essential Points as judged by the Compact and continue to maintain the highest level of recognition for sustainable performance, to date.

UPMC Health Plan also participates in the Sustainable Pittsburgh Challenge (formerly known as the Green Workplace Challenge). This program allows businesses in southwestern Pennsylvania to measure and compare their sustainability performance to an established baseline. They are rewarded points for their initiatives and can even receive awards. With the help of a little friendly competition, several businesses in Pittsburgh are all pushing each other to be leaders in sustainability.

UPMC Health Plan has proved they are champions of sustainability through various greening programs. To learn more about UPMC Health Plan and their recognitions, click here.
