InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), one of the world’s leading hotel companies, will be opening the first EVEN Hotel in Pittsburgh this year! The hotel will conveniently be located downtown on two floors of the mixed-use Kaufmann’s Grand on Fifth building. The historic building has become a landmark in the city of Pittsburgh since the early 20th century.

EVEN® Hotel Pittsburgh is an example of adaptive reuse, which is the process of using an old building for a purpose other than which it was built for, making the hotel sustainable by its very nature. Reusing old sites not only maintains the historic importance and character of the building, but also prevents the need for wasteful demolition and construction processes. This yields several environmental benefits and this project is an important example of sustainable development in the city of Pittsburgh.

In addition, all of IHG Hotel’s participate in their Green Engage system to allow them to measure and manage their environmental impact. All of their hotels satisfy their Level 1 certification, which requires tracking consumption data, setting up a property green team, and installing energy efficient lighting in guest rooms. With four possible levels of certification, IHG hotels have proven to be leaders in environmental sustainability.
