PITT OHIO’s Harrisburg, PA Terminal:
Electrifying the Future of Freight
November 20, 2025
Step onto the grounds of PITT OHIO’s Harrisburg terminal and you’ll sense an unmistakable charge in the air—both literal and figurative. The recent electrification project has transformed the site into a showcase of next-generation logistics, blending sleek technology with forward-thinking design. At its heart lies a complete electric utility service overhaul, featuring a new transformer and switchgear assemblies that glisten under the midday sun. Modern panelboards and exterior switchboards hum with life, powering not only cutting-edge charging stations but also the daily heartbeat of the terminal itself.
With infrastructure primed to support eight trucks, six forklifts, and four passenger vehicles, Harrisburg is ready for the road ahead. The physical layout—inside and out—has been meticulously reimagined. Engineers and electrical contractors poured two years into this vision, crafting seamless integration between legacy systems and the new wave of switchgear, all without interrupting the rhythm of terminal life.

Fleet Innovation on Display
The stars of this electrified stage gleamed beneath admiring eyes. Visitors found themselves drawn to PITT OHIO’s newest fleet members: the Class 7 Mack Medium Duty Electric Box Truck and the formidable Class 8 Freightliner eCascadia. The Mack, with a payload capacity of 15,800 lbs and a range of up to 230 miles per charge, promises versatility with both overnight AC and rapid DC fast charging. Just a few steps away, the eCascadia impresses with its 438 kWh battery, state-of-the-art safety features, and the ability to recharge at lightning speed with a 270 kW charger. These additions mark a milestone—bringing the company’s alternative fuel fleet to 25 vehicles and reaffirming PITT OHIO’s position at the forefront of sustainable logistics.
A Model for Partnership
The day featured impressive demonstrations and impactful discussions. Pennsylvania Department of Energy Secretary Jessica Shirley praised Harrisburg’s electrification as “a model for how public-private partnerships can accelerate the adoption of clean transportation technologies and improve air quality for all Pennsylvanians.” Doug Brown, Chief of Staff for Senator Patty Kim’s office, echoed the call, highlighting how such investments fuel both community pride and economic growth.
