Monday, February 16, 2015 (Pittsburgh, PA)— Pittsburgh will be painted green on Wednesday April 22, 2015 during a citywide celebration of Pittsburgh Earth Day. Mellon Square Park, Schenley Plaza, Market Square and the Fairmont Hotel will host exciting events showcasing local artists, musicians and the city’s leaders in green projects and programs as well as there will be community events happening throughout the city to highlight the accomplishments from Steel to Sustainable.
Pittsburgh’s story of transformation from an industrial to ‘green’ city gives the region much to celebrate. In the eyes of local, regional, and national admirers, Pittsburgh has become a hub for green innovations, sustainable design, LEED-certified buildings, and vibrant economy. Pittsburgh touts the first green college residence hall, the world’s first and largest gold LEED®-certified convention center, and future home to the world’s greenest skyscraper.
Pittsburgh Earth Day is made possible by sponsors including Pitt Ohio, EverPower, Port Authority, Millcraft Investments, Tower Two-Sixty at The Gardens, Fairmont Pittsburgh, Zipcar, Uber, Levin Furniture, Tudi Mechanical Systems, eyetique, Izzazu, Green Mountain Energy, Giant Eagle Market District and VisitPittsburgh along with many community partners. “Pittsburgh Earth Day’s goal is to bring together the community to showcase the progression of our city as leader in green innovation. Local organizations and companies get involved by adding their Earth Day events to the newly launched website, PittsburghEarthDay.org,” says Ronda Zegarelli, President of Acrobatique Creative, branding partner for Pittsburgh Earth Day.
