Through initiatives such as water stewardship, local farming, and waste repurposing, Great Lakes Brewing Co. has established itself as a sustainable brewing company. They have donated over $300,000 to local non-profits in an effort to protect our freshwater resources and have also partnered with local farms to ensure they are purchasing the freshest, most environmentally friendly produce. In addition, along with traditional recycling, they repurpose their byproducts. This includes using their spent brewer’s grain as a soil amendment on their farms and using French fry oil to fuel their shuttle that delivers brewpub guests to downtown sporting events. “We know that we are not perfect, but through zero-waste initiatives, employee benefits and wellness programs, energy conservation, responsible purchasing, and philanthropic giving in communities where our beer is sold, we strive to do the best we can.”

This Earth Day, Saturday, April 22nd, you can join Great Lakes’ efforts towards environmental responsibility in the brewing industry by participating in their unique Sustainable Sips Pub Crawl! Stop by their tent in Market Square to pick up a Pub Crawl Passport. Then, visit all seven of the participating bars anytime between 1PM to 5PM, have a beer there, and get your individual passport stamped by the bar staff as proof. Each bar will have ½ pints of 1 or 2 Great Lakes beers on tap, at varying prices. Once finished, return to the Great Lakes tent and show your stamped passport. For every five (5) completed passports received, Great Lakes will plant a tree! In addition, Great Lakes swag will be given out throughout the day. Participating bars include Diamond Market Bar & Grill, Winghart’s, The Yard Market Square, Primanti Bros., Revel + Roost, Nola On The Square, and City Works – Pittsburgh.

We are excited to have Great Lakes join us for Pittsburgh Earth Day 2017! For more information about the Pub Crawl, click here.
